Booking choice: The coach day with lunch, from $205 per person. Check dates Compare the options below
Six of the Viator tours on this site cover Assisi from Rome, and five of them add Orvieto. They split into three price bands: big-coach days from a central meeting point, small-group or private minivan days with hotel pickup, and private driver days where you do the sightseeing yourself.
Prices below are Viator "from" prices per person, checked in October 2026. They move with the date and group size, so the checkout price is the one that counts.
The quick answer
The cheapest Assisi and Orvieto day is $205 per person on the Greenline coach, with lunch included but no hotel pickup. Small-group and private days with pickup start at $329. The only paid entry on most days is the Orvieto Duomo at EUR 8; the Basilica of St Francis is free.
How much is an Assisi and Orvieto day trip from Rome?
From $205 per person on a coach, $329 for a small group or private day with pickup, and around $398 to $429 for the driver-led days.
All six cancel free up to 24 hours before. The real differences sit in the lunch, guiding and start columns.

Watching the budget? The coach day is the lowest Assisi price here and the only one with lunch in it.
Check dates for the coach day with lunchWhat does the cheapest tour include?
The $205 Greenline day includes the air-conditioned coach, a tour leader, a local guide in Assisi and lunch near Lake Trasimeno.
The day starts at 7:15 AM from the Green Line office on Via Giovanni Amendola, near Termini, and runs about 12.5 hours. You get about an hour on your own in Orvieto, then lunch, then Santa Chiara, Santa Maria Maggiore (the Carlo Acutis tomb), the Basilica of St Francis and Santa Maria degli Angeli. Hotel pickup, drinks and gratuities are not included.
It is rated 3.9 from 1,059 reviews, the most reviewed of the Assisi tours here. Guests praise the guides and Assisi; the complaints are the length of the day, the short unguided hour in Orvieto, a lunch that splits opinion and, for some, commentary in more than one language.

Is the small-group or private day worth the extra money?
If hotel pickup, a smaller group and the Duomo ticket matter to you, yes: the $329 days are rated 4.9 and 5.0.
Welcome Italy's small-group day takes up to 24 people in a minivan, collects you from your hotel or B&B at 7:00 AM and gives you a two-hour professional guide in Assisi, with headsets in the basilica and entry to the Orvieto Duomo. The private version is the same shape for your group only, with pickup inside the Aurelian Walls, a tour assistant all day and an hour at the Sanctuary of the Spoliation, where St Carlo Acutis is buried.
Both are priced per person as listed, and lunch is extra on both. One small-group guest wrote that there were only four of them that day, so it felt very personal.

Want pickup at your door? The small-group day adds a two-hour Assisi guide and the Duomo ticket.
Explore the small-group day with pickupIs the Basilica of St Francis free?
Yes. The Basilica of St Francis is a working church and entry is free, so "basilica entrance included" on a listing saves you nothing.
Donations are welcome. What a tour adds at the basilica is the explanation: headsets on the small-group day, a guide on the coach day. See the Basilica of St Francis guide for hours and the dress code.

Which entry fees do you actually pay?
The Orvieto Duomo is the main one, at EUR 8. St Patrick's Well costs EUR 6 and the Civita di Bagnoregio bridge EUR 5.
The Duomo ticket covers the cathedral, the Emilio Greco museum and the underground chambers, is EUR 11 with the Faina Etruscan museum, and is free for under-11s. The well's EUR 6 full ticket comes from Orvietoviva; Civita's EUR 5 fee, free under 6, from the town's official ticket page. Check which tickets your tour covers:
- Included: the Duomo on the Welcome Italy small-group and private days; the Duomo and St Patrick's Well on the Carlo Acutis day; the Civita fee on the three-town coach day.
- Not included: the Duomo on the coach day with lunch and the three-town day; all tickets on the private driver days.

Is lunch included in the price?
Only on the Greenline coach day. On every other Assisi tour here, lunch is extra.
Guests are split on the included lunch: some call it delicious, others call it underwhelming or bland, and one guest wrote that they could have stayed in Orvieto and eaten there instead. On the minivan and private days you stop at a trattoria and pay on the spot, so bring a card or cash. The Civita and Orvieto wine day also includes a three-course lunch with five wines, but it does not go to Assisi.
Prefer lunch sorted before you set off? It is part of the coach day's price.
Check dates for the coach day with lunchIs it cheaper to do it yourself by train?
For Orvieto alone, yes; for both towns in one day, not realistically.
Orvieto is about an hour to 1 hour 20 by direct train from Rome, plus a short funicular ride. Assisi usually takes 2 to 2.5 hours with a change at Foligno, and the station is a bus or taxi ride below the town. Combining both by rail leaves very little time in either. See train or tour for the details.
Which tour is the best value for you?
Match the price to what you want from the day rather than picking the lowest number.
- Lowest price with lunch: the Greenline coach day, if a long day and a quick Orvieto are fine.
- Three towns for the same price: the three-town coach day, with free time instead of guided walks.
- Pickup and real guiding: the Welcome Italy small-group or private day.
- St Carlo Acutis and every entry arranged: the Carlo Acutis day.
- Your own pace in Assisi: the private driver day, knowing the driver is not a guide.
Decided on pickup and a guide? The small-group day includes both, plus the Duomo ticket.
